Product Description Behind every LG OTR lives a high performance cooking machine. Our powerful 300 CFM exhaust system makes cooking more pleasant by reducing smoke and food odors. With LGâs OTRs, expect the ultimate in premium styling . By adding stylish controls and a hidden venting system, weâve elevated our OTRs to a new level of sophistication. Improved circulation of microwaves with top stirrer fan and rotation of the turntable ensure more even and thorough cooking and defrosting. Melt or soften your butter, cream cheese, or chocolate without boiling or scorching using this low wattage setting. You'll no longer have to let your butter sit on the counter to soften before you can cream it to make cookies.

Displeased with LG August 11, 2010 James D. Hammond (Lafayette, California United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have an LG 1680BB over the stove microwave which is less than one year old. The construction seems flimsy to me and the controls do not seem very well thought out. It appears to me that the controls are made for a new family with really small children. The presets are for things like oatmeal, babyfood, hot dogs, that sort of thing.
The main problem I have with the oven is that the handle just came off. I looked closely at it and the plastic around the two screws which hold the handle on is melted and cracked. It looks like the microwave heated that area enough that the plastic melted and then the rest of the handle cracked until it simply fell off.
I will never buy another LG microwave; not unless they are significantly improved.
Noisy fan! August 8, 2010 kevin kissinger 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This unit installed fairly easy and it is lighter than most. All the features work well as advertised. However, it is very noisy. The fan that runs is really loud. Maybe because it vents to the interior but we actually have to turn our TV up when its running. We've had this unit for about a month now. We're going to keep it but the fan is extremely annoying.
Cheaply made. LG service needs an internal Lemon Law. August 8, 2010 charwoman (Richmond, VA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We got this to replace a 9-year-old GE over-the-range mic after GE tried to sell me a replacement model that warrantied everything, including the magnetron, for only one year (good warranties cover major parts like the magnetron for longer). I shopped around and got this model, which was not as fancy but then I never used the probe and other features on my old one. It was down to this or a Samsung, and I made the wrong choice.
We had the unit installed rather than doing it ourselves, so I can't speak to ease of installation. As a working microwave, it's only OK, a bit chintzy looking compared to our old one. Happy to have an OTR mic back, which I use constantly, I was pleased enough with it at first. I noticed that it did not always make the same sound when I cooked with it, though, and realized that the fan was turning on sometimes, but not always, during cook cycles. I didn't think much of it until the mag unit blew about 6 months in. The customer service rep I spoke to seemed to think that the fan wasn't supposed to come on at all during cooking, and didn't seem to think it was related to the magnetron failure.
The service experience started with LG initiating a call with a local service partner who took days to schedule an appointment with us and once he showed, had trouble figuring out the buttons on the front panel. After a delay, LG sent a different repair technician who seemed quite competent and replaced the mag unit so that it was cooking again, and noted that the fan not coming on consistently would likely explain the mag unit blowing. Unfortunately, the fan continued to engage erratically after repair and even though LG sent him back again twice more and he replaced multiple parts, the problem continues--to this day. LG would not consent to simply replace the unit, which is clearly defective. The repairman says he's out of ideas, while LG says they need proof that the unit is not repairable before they will replace it--and I never got a clear answer on whether they would also handle the reinstallation if they ever did so.
I was initially reassured by the fact that LG seems to have a well-organized service network, but in the end it meant nothing. Even though the low price of this model would have made replacement probably their least expensive option, they were more than happy to keep sending technicians to my house repeatedly (six visits total!) over a course of months for inconvenient and ineffective fixes and blow me off until I finally, to my shame, gave up. LG won the war of attrition, and now we have to listen out for the fan to engage every time we start the microwave, and if it doesn't, we have to stop and restart it as many times as it takes for the fan to engage to prevent the mag from blowing again. We hate this thing dearly now but are trying to keep it alive to get some value back out of it and avoid the cost and ordeal of finding and paying for a new model and more installation fees. When the time comes to replace it, we'll probably drag it out back with a couple of aluminum bats and make it wish it had never been born.
I don't know if LG electronics is as bad as the LG appliance division so far as support, but this has made me want to never buy an LG product ever again, no matter how slick and appealing some of their home entertainment products look. "Life" is most assuredly NOT "good".
Love my new microwave July 25, 2010 fasciafixer 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First, it was shipped right away and arrived quickly. I was amazed. I love this microwave! There are lots of cool features, I love the 30 sec quick on (you can push it repeatedly to add 30 secs), and the soften and melt features are great if you make desserts. There were some negative reviews about cleaning it; perhaps that is the stainless model but the black is so easy to clean. Just wipe it w/ a damp cloth and it looks great. No product, just water! People complained of the noise; it is no louder than my other microwave and the light is brighter. My husband mounted it a bit out from the upper cabinet as opposed to flush so the vent could work. I have it above my gas stove with no problems. I love this microwave and Amazon is great too!
Food not heating July 6, 2010 Grandeson 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A little over a year and microwave is dead. It turns on, buttons work but food does not get heated. LG Customer service again terrible with this product, they should change their dept name to customer disservice. They alone will stop me from ever buying LG again. I am disappointed with LG and my thousand sworth of appliances. Will NEVER purchase LG again for anything, and now dont care if rest of appliances match or not."
