We just had to purchase this microwave to replace an older model(7 years old) of the same one. My mom thought she turned on the timer but actually turned it on with nothing in it and let's just say we couldn't use the old one anymore. Thankfully they still made it just a newer model. I love that the keypad is hidden since we have young children and they aren't tempted to play with the buttons. It is also very stylish and it looks nice.

We've owned 2 of these so far... a house sitter ruined our first one by burning popcorn in it so badly that the smell wouldn't go away no matter what we did. I was upset and she hadn't bothered to try and clean it or anything while we were gone (or so I thought)... this was about 3 years ago. Yesterday I was making popcorn and stepped outside figuring I'd put it on for a good amount of time so it wouldn't burn (3 minutes).... came back in to thick smoke, horrid burned popcorn smell and a YELLOW interior of the microwave (i figured before that it was some buttery substance she'd put on the popcorn that did this when it exploded... nope, apparently that's just what happens).
This second one is again, ruined... but I learned my lesson the hard way. Be very very careful...it's a powerful microwave.

I bought this oven from Amazon 18 months ago in spite of seeing several reviews claiming that the oven had emitted sparks and smoke. Well, now I have had the exact same problem with this oven TWICE in 18 months. The first time was after I had had the unit for just under a year. Loud (BZZZZZT!) and frightening white sparks came shooting off the "wave guide cover" (I'm now a expert on microwave malfunction) The kitchen filled with enough smoke to set off the fire alarms. Sharp covered the repair under warantee but offered nothing to compensate me for the 30 minute trip each way to the repair shop to drop it of, and again to pick it up. I gave it a chance because we really like the oven.
This past week (6/15/10) 6 months after it was repaired, it started sparking and smoking again! Needless to say I am furious and frustrated. After some haggling and my absolute insistence that I would never run this thing in my house again, Sharp agreed to send me a new unit of this model for $50 including all shipping etc. I agreed since we love the way the oven looks and works, (except when it's on FIRE!) Ironically, both times this thing has failed I had to go up to the attic and drag down our smaller 15 (!) year old microwave that still works perfectly!!! This is the last time I'm dealing with this problem. If the new one blows up too, it's going out in the garbage and I will never ever EVER buy another Sharp product.

If I could rate this product 0 stars while simultaneously stomping on the balls of the idiot who designed it, I would.
I've had this microwave for about 3 years. It now sparks like Dale did in the botched execution in The Green Mile. I can just picture Wild Bill screaming from his cell, "It ain't cookin' now! It ain't cookin' now!" If only John Coffey could came over and heal my appliance.
I would love to grab the president of the Sharp company like Paul Edgecomb did with Percy and force him to look at this P.O.S. sparking and say, "Look, you son of a *****!!!"
There is no user error or food causing this problem. Just a simple case of a company making a shoddy product that can endanger the lives of you and your family.
If you avoid microwaves made by Sharp, the life (and burnt bag of popcorn) you save just might be your own.
I would comment on how the sensor cooking feature stopped working, among other things, but I'm thinking if the fact that this thing can burn down your house and kill your family doesn't dissuade you...
